Finger Licking Oriental Barbecued Pork

Here is what I call a finger licking’ first-class oriental barbecued pork that you will be surprised how simple is it to cook at home.


(serves 8)

  • ¼ cup of soy sauce
  • ¼ cup of hoisin sauce
  • 3 tablespoons of ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • Small piece of fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon of five-spice mix
  • 1 boneless pork shoulder, fat trimmed
  • 250ml chicken broth



Crush the garlic. Peel and grate the ginger. Combine the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ketchup, honey, crushed garlic, sesame oil and five spice powder in a bowl. Stir thoroughly.


Transfer the spice sauce to a seal-able plastic bag. Add the pork to the plastic bag, and then shake the bag and leave to marinate for 2 hours.



Next, place your slow cooker onto a low setting. Empty your pork and spice sauce into the slow cooker. Cover and leave for 8 hours.



Finally, add the chicken broth and slow cook for another 30 minutes. Tear the pork into shreds and serve alongside the sauce.
