A cool summer drink that is mixed primarily with sugar and water, then mixed with specific seeds, flowers, and / or in-season fruits. The preparation trick with this drink is the infusion of fruit, flower, or seed essence in water without turning it into a smoothie. They are then usually stored in large plastic jars called “Aguas Frescas Vitrolero de plastic”, or glass counterparts, when put up for sale or distribution.
- 2- 4 cups drinking water
- 2- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- ½ -1-tablespoon lime or lemon juice
- 1-2 cups flower or seeds of your choice, OR
- 2 – 4 cups fresh fruit of your choice
- (Optional) Crushed ice or ice cubes
If using a blender, chop your chosen fruit, flower or seed variation, then puree.
Pour the strained puree into a pitcher, and then mix in the drinking water and sugar.
Stir vigorously. To sweeten further the beverage, add more sugar.
Squeeze fresh lime or lemon on top afterwards to garnish. Alternatively, you can garnish with mint, basil, or ginger.
Traditionally, instead of using a blender, the fruit is mashed with a fork in a mixing container. The sugars, water, garnish and ice is then mixed together.
